How Can severe Pain In The Lower Leg And Knee Be Treated?

Hi Doctor, I am A 72 yr. old male with cancer, ( in remission for around 4 years), Type 2 diabetes and RA. A while back i had a MRI as pr. my Rhumatologist. Severe knee and lower leg pain. He in turn sent me to an Orthopedic Surgeon. I explained all my symptoms to him . My Rhumatologist wanted me to look into a full knee replacement. The O.S. said no--that it was a problem with the nerves in my lower back and i should see a Neurological Surgeon. I have had lower back surgery 3 times already, (lumbar microdiskectomy at L4-L5. In your opinion should this procedure be performed again over nee replacement?

Hi,

Severe pain in lower leg and knee be treated by fentanyl patch.

Apply the patch locally as if in the thigh region.

It controls pain for 72 hours after which you need to change it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
